Cayetano de Arquer Buigas was born in Cerdanyola del Vallés on 11th January, 1932 combing two families, the Arquer and the Buigas, thus uniting the aristocracy with the purest essence of the arts. His moter's father, Cayetano Buigas Monravà was a distinguished Modernist architect who in Catalonia alone created monuments such a Columbues Column, the Vichy Catalan Health Spa, and the Comella Palace in Vic. He was also the father of Carlos Buigas, the brilliant engineer/ inventor of the illuminated fountains of Montjuic in Barcelona along with some 700 projects on five continents. Theatres, light fountains, universal exhibitions.; father of Joaquin Buigas, the writer and creator of the most famous children's comic that ever existed, the T.B.O.; of José Buigas, artist and painter, and Ma. Rosario Buigas, the mother of Arquer Buigas, from whom he inherited his gift for drawing.

His father comes from a most distinguished and title catalan family, also renowned industrials who later played an important role in the development of catalan economy in the nineteenth century. Regarding the former, his grandfather, José de Arquer Vives, as well as being both lawyer and industrialist was also First Gentlemann - in Waiting to the Military Cavinet of His Majesty Alfonso XIII, a Knight of the Royal Corps of Catalan Nobility and for some years (1.924-30) President of the board of members of the Liceo Opera House of BArcelona. His Father, Luis de Arquer was not only a well-know bilingual writer but also a Cavalry Officer land belongs to various noble orders, one of which being the Royal Military Corps of San Jorge of Gerona, to which Arquer Buigas himself, also belongs. From his father, without a doubt, comes his fascination with horses, and hence his predilection for painting them.

From thèse diverse, though not incompatible background cultures; from this two families, comes the idiosyncrasy of our artist, formed on the one hand by the sensitivity and imagination of those who lived "art" on a daily basis and on the other, by a pragmatism imbued with the elegance and elitism entailed by his caste. It is most likely from this duality, that one of the titles which justifiably identifies Arquer Buigas, has arisen " The aristocrat of contemporary art".

This somewhat lengthy explanation regarding Arquer Buigas contemporary family, is given simply so that one can appreciate the influence that they may ace had in the development and final personality of our painter, reflected as they are, in this work, in which the qualities of elegance and fine craftsmanship, are inseparable.

It now only remains to outline briefly some of the most significant periods of Arquer Buigas life, up until the present, with particular reference to his interest in art.

He spend his adolescence detween Madrid and Cerdanyola (Barcelona). From early childhood he was obviously and interested and gifted drawer and his student files are a faithful reflection of this, laden, as they are, with his sketches. In one of the schools where he studied, he spend some years en the company of Carlos Saura, the famous film maker with whom he started his fascination for photography which was his main interest for many years and which he later brought to Barcelona in the form of a commercial business which he shared with Carlos Durán, the deceased cinema director, and Jorge Herralde, renowned editor. The people of Barcelona came to compare his work with that of David Hamilton.

A brief glance at other aspects of his life shows us a you man with a passion for motorcycles, which he rode in competition, and fascination for everything related with horses. From the former he bears the scar of serious accident which prevented the use of his left arm for some years. From the latter he remembers the death of his last horse, and accident theta happened at full gallop as he rode, and from which he escaped, miraculously, unharmed.

But his real passion has always been drawing. He draws in any place, in any circumstance. His sketches, that remain untouched for days on the marble bars of cafés, are notorious and fondly admired by the locals. He painted a great deal and with much success, supported by his first manager, his uncle Ignacio de arguer, who exhibited his work in his restaurant "Santa Marta" in Cabrera de Mar and thus successfully launched his first works.

Arquer Buigas preferred subject in painting, is clearly, woman; not any, but a particular type of woman. He also paints children, horses, landscapes, portraits, and uses effort and skill to their work and imagination.
